Materials Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced materials engineer who will split their time between material characterisation testing for simulation and development of solutions for manufacturing and production. As a materials engineer you will be responsible for developing and running composite material testing for forming and structural simulations, as well as for production and manufacturing processes. You will be working with the design and simulation team to develop and maintain material testing facilities. You will also work with the manufacturing and engineering team to address and develop materials processes solutions. You will be responsible for testing the conformance of any new material.
What will you be doing? 🤔
- Lead the development of composite material characterisation testing, with the focus being on fabric forming testing.
- Design and manufacture material testing rigs.
- Work with the Engineering team to develop control solutions for automating repeatable material testing.
- Perform material testing for simulation input data generation and for material conformance investigation.
- Analyse testing data results and generate reports for all the stakeholders.
- Be responsible for all the material testing facilities maintenance and identify any development opportunities.
- Work on any material process challenges met during the manufacturing and production of the RTS composite parts.
- Collaborate seamlessly with our Design & Analysis and Engineering teams for the smooth integration of new materials in our processes.
What do we need from you? 💪
Essential:
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering or a related field. A Master's degree or Ph.D. in a relevant discipline is preferred.
- At least 3 years’ experience in composite materials testing.
- Experience in composites materials testing lab.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically, identify root causes, and propose innovative solutions.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts in a clear and concise manner.
Desired:
- Experience in python scripting and/or programming testing machines and controllers.
- Experience in composite fabric testing and material card development is desired.
- Experience in a materials design/selection and/or process engineering role is preferred.
