Facilities Manager
Join ICOMAT – Revolutionising the Future of Lightweight Manufacturing!
iCOMAT is an advanced manufacturing company that invented Rapid Tow Shearing (RTS) - the only proven technology for producing defect-free curved-fiber composite parts at industrial scale. We deliver the lightest structures possible for aerospace, automotive, defense, and space, at a rate and cost efficiency that far exceeds existing composite production processes.
We build and operate automated factories for composite materials, delivering components to Tier 1 suppliers and OEMs. The business has three main divisions: development of automated production machines, development of software design and production tools, and operation of the factory. We work with 25+ customers and completed the largest ever Series A in composites manufacturing to fuel a significant scale-up, with growth plans that will see the business multiply in size over the next two to three years and expand operations into the UK, Europe and the US.
The business has currently more than 130,000 sqm of production capacity with manufacturing facilities in the UK (Gloucester and Swindon) and the US (Dayton, Ohio); a Hardware R&D Centre in Bristol, UK; and a Software R&D Centre in Athens, Greece.
As Facilities Manager you will own our UK sites end to end: the buildings, the infrastructure, the statutory compliance and the day-to-day running of every facility. This is our first dedicated facilities hire. You will build the function from the ground up across Gloucester (Factory I), Swindon (Factory II) and Bristol (Hardware R&D Centre), get facilities up to speed as we grow, and set the standard our future sites will follow. The role can be based in either Swindon or Gloucester.
What will you be doing?
Facilities Projects & Fit-Out
Taking facilities from shell to fully operational: planning and delivering fit-outs, machine installations, utilities upgrades, layout changes and site moves. You will scope the work, appoint and manage contractors, control budgets and timelines, and hand over facilities that are ready to run.
Multi-Site Facilities Management
Owning day-to-day facilities operations across Gloucester, Swindon and Bristol: building fabric, utilities, HVAC, compressed air, lifting equipment, access control, security, cleaning and waste. You will keep every site running, presentable and audit-ready, with regular time spent at each.
Statutory Compliance & Planned Maintenance
Building and running the planned preventative maintenance and statutory inspection programme. You will keep the records complete and the sites permanently inspection-ready.
Contractor & Supplier Management
Selecting, inducting and managing the contractors who work on our sites, and negotiating facilities contracts across maintenance, security, cleaning, waste and utilities against cost, quality and reliability.
Coordination & Communication
Working across operations, engineering, quality and leadership to keep sites, projects and compliance aligned, and reporting clear facilities KPIs to the management team.
What do we need from you?
Proven experience in facilities management or site operations in a manufacturing or industrial environment
A track record of getting facilities up to speed: fit-outs, relocations, machine installations or site projects delivered on time and on budget
Strong project management skills, from scoping and budgeting through to contractor coordination and handover
Solid working knowledge of building services: utilities, HVAC, compressed air, electrical and mechanical plant
Experience managing facilities budgets and service contracts
Familiarity with statutory compliance and planned preventative maintenance
Confidence selecting and managing contractors and holding them to standard on cost, quality and delivery
A hands-on, practical approach: you will build the function while running it day to day
Attention to detail and accuracy: missed inspections and lapsed certificates stop a factory
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, from the shop floor to the leadership team
Ability to work independently across multiple sites, with regular travel between Gloucester, Swindon and Bristol
Continuous improvement mindset and willingness to learn and adapt
Nice to have
IWFM or an equivalent facilities management qualification
Experience in composites, aerospace or automotive manufacturing environments
Experience standing up a facilities function in a fast-growing business, or bringing new sites online
Our Values: Uncompromising Excellence
Discipline over excuses. We commit. We follow through. We hold ourselves and each other to the highest standard, especially when the pressure is on.
Push the edge. iCOMAT was built on a refusal to accept that curved fiber could not be manufactured at scale. We innovate where others hesitate.
Aligned and accountable. Everyone owns their lane, communicates openly, and delivers without being chased. No silos. No ambiguity.
