Project Manager
Join ICOMAT – Revolutionising the Future of Lightweight Manufacturing!
iCOMAT is an advanced manufacturing company that invented Rapid Tow Shearing (RTS) - the only proven technology for producing defect-free curved-fiber composite parts at industrial scale. We deliver the lightest structures possible for aerospace, automotive, defense, and space, at a rate and cost efficiency that far exceeds existing composite production processes.
We build and operate automated factories for composite materials, delivering components to Tier 1 suppliers and OEMs. The business has three main divisions: development of automated production machines, development of software design and production tools, and operation of the factory. We work with 25+ customers and completed the largest ever Series A in composites manufacturing to fuel a significant scale-up, with growth plans that will see the business multiply in size over the next two to three years and expand operations into the UK, Europe and the US.
The business has currently more than 130,000 sqm of production capacity with manufacturing facilities in the UK (Gloucester and Swindon) and the US (Dayton, Ohio); a Hardware R&D Centre in Bristol, UK; and a Software R&D Centre in Athens, Greece.
As Project Manager you will own delivery of the projects assigned to you, from kick-off through to completion. You will hold the plan, the budget and the deliverables, and you will be the one accountable when a milestone is at risk. Today we deliver components to more than 25 customers from two operational UK factories, with a third facility coming online in the US. The role is based at Factory 1 in Gloucester and reports to the Head of Project Management.
What will you be doing?
Project Planning & Execution
Developing detailed project plans, setting timelines, defining milestones and coordinating cross-functional teams to ensure timely and effective project delivery. You will build and maintain plans with real critical paths, resource loading and dependencies, and keep them honest as the work moves.
Budget Management
Overseeing project budgets, monitoring expenditure and identifying cost-saving opportunities while ensuring high-quality standards. You will keep cost and schedule visible in the same picture, so trade-offs get made with the full facts.
Stakeholder Communication
Acting as the main point of contact for internal teams, customers and external stakeholders, ensuring clear and proactive communication throughout the project lifecycle. Reporting is concise, honest and on time, and always paired with the corrective action.
Risk Management
Identifying potential project risks, implementing mitigation strategies and adapting to change swiftly to keep projects on track. Risks get found early, quantified, mitigated and escalated long before they become schedule problems.
Continuous Improvement
Analysing project outcomes, providing insights for future projects and contributing to iCOMAT’s culture of continuous improvement and innovation. As the project management function grows you will help shape the templates, governance and reporting cadence that everyone works to.
What do we need from you?
Hands-on project management in a manufacturing, engineering or technical environment is the number one requirement: you have delivered physical hardware to customer schedules, through industrialisation and into production
Experience in aerospace, automotive or space, ideally within the composites or materials science industry
A track record of running multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously without losing control of any of them
Strong organisational, problem-solving and communication skills, with the credibility to hold stakeholders to a plan
Commercial awareness across budgets, cost and change control
Strong Office 365 skills, particularly Project, Excel and PowerPoint
A proactive, adaptable and collaborative professional who thrives in a fast-paced, high-tech environment
Nice to have
Composites manufacturing experience
Formal project management certification (APM, PMP or PRINCE2)
Experience of grant-funded projects (Innovate UK, ATI or ESA)
Experience taking a product from prototype through to rate production in a fast-growing business
Exposure to AS9100 and OEM customer-specific programme requirements
Our Values: Uncompromising Excellence
Discipline over excuses. We commit. We follow through. We hold ourselves and each other to the highest standard, especially when the pressure is on.
Push the edge. iCOMAT was built on a refusal to accept that curved fiber could not be manufactured at scale. We innovate where others hesitate.
Aligned and accountable. Everyone owns their lane, communicates openly, and delivers without being chased. No silos. No ambiguity.
